Description

Not quite finished, obviously, but I'll update it when I get it done.

Part of Advanced Drawing this quarter is Graphic Novels, so I took it as an opportunity to work on a short story I wrote. I had intended to get it at least penciled, and have it all up by halloween, as the story is a macabre/horror story (or at least its intended to be) but obviously that didn't happen. Still up for debate with myself whether I should start posting it as soon as I finish it, or save it till next October.

I was under the impression we had to do Character Sheets to turn in, but I must have been mistaken, as the teacher never asked for them XD Oh well, they were needed and useful anyways.

Cerus is Talbot's mount, a four year old Hyaena, who for all his size and speed is as yellow as they come. If he were to have a preference, it would be to run, get the job done, and enjoy a good rest. This makes it rather unfortunate that his rider is so confident, and often steers them into danger. None-the-less, he shows the loyalty that has come to be admired in his species, and in spite of his lacking courage and self confidence, will follow or run where he is steered.

Hyaena used by the Hyaena Post Company are branded and tattooed in the regular manner of work animals, with brands on the left shoulder, and tattoos inside the left ear, initialing their base stable/outpost, their dam's litter number (the last two digits in a three digit number), and their own litter number (all three digits of their number, relative to where in the litter they were born). Cerus is no different, with a tattoo reading MRo03011 (Marsh Road Outpost, Dam the third of her litter, Cerus the 11th of his)

Cerus is Greek, meaning "fit." In mythology, this is the name of the horse belonging to Adrastos that was swifter than the wind.

May I make an observation? I notice that the saddle seems pretty flat. I only say this because I ride horses and have run into this problem with trying to make tack for my own fantasy mounts that are not equine. (also I get a bit touchy on this) You wanted a sort of western-ish world feel maybe, like the pony express but with older critters?

I'd suggest playing with the back and front of the saddle to give a bit of shape to it--as it stands now it's very harsh on the back unless it were made of fabric and would inhibit movement in many ways. Giving a bit of lift in the back (cantle) would give the rider more stability and keeps his weight off the main movement of the back. (even western saddles have and almost wedge shape in the cantle). You could probably pretend there's a small cushion shape and have a more unique equipment, but that's probably more trouble than it's worth.

I hope you good luck in your projects and I hope this comment only builds you up, because it's only a minor detail (but one I feel more passionate about ^^; ).
