"The seagull sees farthest who flies highest”
One of my favorite birds of all time is the Albatross. The Wandering Albatross in particular, but they're all amazing birds.
Anyways, this is only half of my contribution to sea bird gryphons: The Greater Sea Gryphons. The smaller ones will come later (like, when i have time. HA!)
From top left:
Great Cormorant/Generic big cat
Anhinga/Black generic big cat (he turned out far too green, but oh well, it looks neat)
Wandering Albatross/White Generic big cat (I'm split between a lion body shape or a tiger body shape)
Pelican (both the Great White and the Brown)/Generic big cat
And the uncolored one:
Great Skua/Generic big cat, carrying a caribou kill to his nest. He will be painted eventually, but I wanted to upload this since i'm not sure when i'll get the chance to finish him.
In explaination to that...I believe I was watching Planet Earth...maybe....and some caribou got too close to a Skua pair's nest. The two birds took turns attacking the caribou, who, though they greatly outsized the skuas, took off running (not that i blame them
) The concept of that was funny, so when I drew the Great Skua Gryphon, I added the caribou as a joke.
Truthfully, I think it would be hard and awkward to carry an animal like a bull caribou any more than a short distance, unless that is a mighty HUGE gryphon, but let's just pretend its alright, shall we?
